At IntimateProductLab, we don’t guess. We don’t rewrite product descriptions. And we definitely don’t rate things we haven’t personally used.
Every product that earns a review on this site goes through a structured, hands-on testing process. Here’s exactly how it works — no secrets, no shortcuts.
Step 1: Acquisition
Most products are purchased directly by us using our own funds, typically from the manufacturer’s official website or authorized retailers like Amazon. This ensures we’re testing the same product you’d receive if you ordered it yourself.
Occasionally, a brand may send a product for review. When that happens, it’s always clearly disclosed at the top of the review. A gifted product never guarantees a positive review — if it’s not good, I’ll say so.
Step 2: Unboxing & First Impressions
Every product is documented from the moment it arrives. I photograph the packaging, included accessories, charging cables, instruction manuals — everything. First impressions matter because they’re part of the experience you’ll have too.
During this phase, I evaluate packaging quality and discretion, what’s included in the box, initial material feel and build quality, and any immediate concerns (unusual smell, visible defects, confusing instructions).
Step 3: Material & Safety Assessment
Before anything else, I verify what the product is made of. This is non-negotiable.
I check the manufacturer’s stated materials against visible and tactile indicators. I look for medical-grade silicone certification, phthalate-free claims, and overall material quality. Products that use potentially harmful materials (like porous TPR/TPE for insertable use) are flagged clearly in the review.
I also note whether the product is waterproof (and verify the IPX rating if stated), body-safe for its intended use, and compatible with standard water-based lubricants.
Step 4: Real-World Testing (Minimum 2 Weeks)
This is where most review sites fall short — they either don’t test at all, or they test once and write it up. I use every product for a minimum of two weeks before writing a single word.
During the testing period, I evaluate performance and effectiveness across multiple sessions, ease of use including controls and ergonomics, noise levels in a quiet room, battery life and charging experience, app connectivity and reliability where applicable, and cleaning and maintenance requirements.
Two weeks allows me to assess consistency, long-term comfort, battery degradation, and whether the initial excitement fades or holds up.
Step 5: Scoring
Every product is rated on a 10-point scale across seven criteria:
Material Quality & Safety (20%) — Is it body-safe? What’s it made of? Any concerning smells or textures?
Performance (25%) — Does it deliver? Vibration quality, intensity range, pattern variety, and real-world effectiveness.
Build Quality (15%) — Construction, durability, button quality, seams, and overall feel of craftsmanship.
Noise Level (10%) — How loud is it in a quiet room? Could a roommate or partner in the next room hear it?
Ease of Use (10%) — Intuitive controls? Easy to charge? Simple to clean? Comfortable to hold?
Value for Money (10%) — How does the price compare to the quality and performance? Are there better options at this price point?
Design & Discretion (10%) — Aesthetics, portability, travel-friendliness, and how discreet the product looks and sounds.
The final score is a weighted average of all seven criteria. I don’t round up to be nice. A 6.5 is a 6.5.
Step 6: Photography
Every review includes original photos taken by me. You’ll never see stock photos or manufacturer images used as the main review visuals on this site. I photograph the product from multiple angles, include size references, and show real-world details that matter — like the charging port location, button layout, and texture close-ups.
Step 7: Writing & Publishing
After testing and photography, I write the review. Every review follows a consistent structure so you always know where to find the information you need. I include a quick verdict at the top for people who want the short version, and a detailed breakdown for those who want everything.
Before publishing, I fact-check all claims, verify current pricing and availability, and add relevant internal links to related guides and comparisons.
After Publishing: Updates
Products change. Prices drop. New versions come out. I revisit published reviews periodically and update them when relevant. Every review shows a “Last Updated” date so you know exactly how current the information is.
